EZMove, a feature developed collaboratively by the community in a series of Wonderland Wednesday coding sessions, allows anyone with permission to move and rotate objects using the mouse and keyboard. For any movement, you must hold down the ALT key (OPTION key on Macs). An EZMove demo video is available on the blog.
To move an object up, down, right, or left, hold down the ALT key (OPTION key on Macs) and drag the object. As soon as you press the ALT key and click, the object will be highlighted in red. Continue to hold down the ALT key for as long as you wish to move the object.
You can also move objects right and left by selecting an object with the ALT key pressed and use the right and left arrow keys to adjust the position. The up and down arrow keys move the object up and down.
Moving Objects Closer and Farther Away From You#
With the ALT key pressed and an object selected, use the scroll wheel on your mouse or the plus and minus keys on the keyboard to move the object closer or farther away from your avatar. The object will move relative to your avatar, so if you rotate your avatar, you can move the object in a different direction using the scroll wheel.
To rotate an object, hold down the ALT key and use the left mouse button to select the object. With the ALT key still held down, release the left mouse button and hold down the right mouse button. Dragging left or right with the right mouse button will rotate the object around the Y axis. Currently, that is the only direction of rotation supported by EZMove.
Moving Multiple Objects#
To move more than one object at a time, hold down the ALT key and click on the first object. With the ALT key still pressed, press the SHIFT key and click on one or more objects. Release the SHIFT key, keeping the ALT key down, and move or rotate the objects as described above.
